Hintertux Glacier

A snowball fight in summer?

Can you no longer wait to glide down the snow-covered slopes on skis or snowboard? Surrounded by the imposing three-thousand-meter peaks of the Zillertal mountains, you can enjoy fantastic skiing even in summer in Austria's most snow-sure ski resort.
The Hintertux Glacier can be easily reached by a 30-minute drive from Apartmenthaus Almhitten.

Heading to new heights…

In summer, the area around the Tuxer Ferner invites you to enjoy gorgeous hikes, for example a leisurely tour from the valley station of the glacier lift via the Weitental, which is a popular hangout for marmots, to the Tuxerjoch Haus. From here, you can continue your hike to the Olperer Hütte, Hornspitze, or Kleiner Kaserer, and up to the rugged Olperer.
Luis´ Glacier Flea Safari in the Sommerbergalm hiking area is an especially popular activity for little guests. The sunny terraces, impressive Spannagelhöhle cave, and Nature's Ice Palace are also worth a visit!

Tuxerjoch Haus

Your host family, the Hotter family, has been closely connected to the Hintertux Glacier for 4 generations. Over 110 years ago, great-grandfather Franz Hotter, a master carpenter and innkeeper in Hochsteg, combined his two skills and laid the foundation for a hut on the Tuxerjoch. After World War I, it was purchased by the Austrian Tourist Club and a lease agreement for the Hotter family was negotiated. Since then, the Hotter family has run the cozy hut in both winter and summer with great passion and dedication. Your host Franz Hotter Jr. took over the Tuxerjoch Haus from his father in 2012 and welcomes guests with delicious Tyrolean specialties.
